When talking of Torino, it is almost impossible to not mention its piazzas and porticos, among the most elegant in the world. And you definitely cannot forget its food and drink legacy. Many people do not know that Torino used to be the capital of the Kingdom of Italy, and probably even less people know that it was in fact the birthplace of the Espresso coffee; the “Aperitivo” and its recent evolution “Apericena”; Vermouth and Martini; the Gianduiotto (one of Europe’s most renowned chocolate delight); the triangle sandwich and the Slow Food movement.

Our walk will start at the Piazza San Carlo, nicknamed “Salotto di Torino” (Turin’s salon or living room), which had always been the natural gathering place for locals and visitors alike. Strolling along the porticos, you will learn about the city’s coffee heritage and some of the world’s oldest cafés that dot the piazza.

Following the wide boulevard Via Roma – part of Torino’s shopping district – we will reach Piazza Castello, a vast extravagant square home to sumptuous buildings like the Savoy Royal Palace and Palazzo Madama, the first seat of the Italian parliament. Wandering around, we will discuss how this lesser-known city (blame it on discretion and playful haughtiness) was crucial to the unification of Italy and the country as you know it today.

Ciao! My name is Christian, I am 47 years old and I grew up a stone’s throw away from what I still consider my happy place: Torino. After graduating in foreign languages and literature, I worked in the publishing industry as a translator and in major sporting events (Olympics, MotoGP World Championship) as a press officer. In 2012, I decided to devote myself to my true passion: tourism – in all its aspects, from logistics (as a tour manager) to contents (as a tour guide).

A nomad at heart, travel has always been a huge part of my life and what ultimately makes me who I am. I consider it an enormous privilege to be able to show you what my eyes see – and my heart feels – every day in the streets of Torino. With its wide variety of itineraries and the superb legacy of art, history, cinema and… food, this city still inspires me after all these years. I cannot wait to share my passion for Torino with you. So, what are you waiting for? Come walk with me!
