Budapest is divided into two parts by the magnificent Danube river: Buda and Pest. This tour is an introduction to this magnificent city and it explores the main sights of Pest. The Pest side means downtown and that is where our economical, political, and cultural center is located.

Let’s start our walk together with the St. Stephen Basilica. It has a pretty interesting story since the main dome has collapsed in 1868 shortly after it was inaugurated. Let’s walk together and find out what happened:)).

Along our way, we will pass by a life-size brass statue of a policeman from the 1930s with his typical mustache and beer-belly. Let’s touch the mustache and make a wish together–and wait and see:)). We won’t miss the Nazi occupation Holocaust Memorial spot where we have a chance to talk about the heavy topic of  WW2 and the Hungarian Holocaust.

We definitely deserve to lighten up so let me invite you into our famous Strudel House. Let’s have fun together! Do you know the difference between the German and Hungarian style strudel?  Let’s learn together about how we pull the dough and bake homemade fresh strudels in every hour.

Our final destination is the magnificent House of Parliament built during the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy and where our 1956 revolution started against Soviet  Communism.

Monika

Jo napot! My name is Monika, your Hungarian Budapest tour guide. I was born and raised here in Budapest, Hungary during the Communist Era. I have a few childhood memories from that era that I think you will find interesting and helpful to understand Eastern Europe.

I also lived for 15 years in New York, US, and worked there as a travel agent before I have relocated back to Budapest and started working as a travel guide/tour director in Budapest and in Eastern Europe.

I love my job! Having fun with you during our walking tours, sharing, teaching about art, history, local food is my passion. I am particularly interested in showing you hidden courtyards, ornamented doorknobs, off-path curiosities besides the mainstream "must-see things" of Budapest. I am a devoted fan of our coffeehouse and strudel culture so you bet we will wind up some way to this delicious topic:)).
I promise you will be surprised how magic and beautiful our capital is. Please give us a try and sign up for one of my tours. Let's have fun together, come, walk with me:))
