Buongiorno! Welcome to the magical town of Taormina!
You are in Sicily, the beautiful southern Italian island located right in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea that has always been the crossroad for ancient civilizations. Taormina is no exception! Perched up on a hill and inhabited by Greeks, Romans and also Arabs during the past, Taormina became worldwide famous thanks to the Grand Tour. Starting from the 17th century, young aristocrats decided to travel around Europe to learn and discover the culture and art of the ancient world. Italy was one of the favorite spots to do so and Sicily became a must-see.
Today, Taormina has become famous also for its deluxe hotels, gourmet restaurants, colorful ceramics and chic boutiques. We’ll start our walk from Piazza IX Aprile, the so called “living room” of Taormina. This piazza offers scenic views of the bay of Giardini Naxos (the first Greek colony founded in Sicily), historic cafes, beautiful baroque churches and, on a clear day, also views of Mount Etna, the biggest active volcano in Europe. Then, we’ll walk through Corso Umberto, the cobbled stone street full of local shops, gelaterias and iconic narrow streets and staircases.
From Piazza IX Aprile we’ll wander through some narrow alleys getting glimpses of more local flavors and beautiful homes and get to the peaceful Villa Comunale, the public gardens. We’ll end our walk with the views from the garden, which will allow us to see the whole bay below Taormina.

I'm Floriana and I come from Sicily, south of Italy, the beautiful island in the middle of the Mediterranean sea.
I was born and raised in a small town called Giarre right at the foot of Mount Etna, the biggest active volcano in Europe.
I’ve been working in tourism for 9 years, since I finished University, and the love for my homeland is what made me choose this job.
