Last October, the Valley of the Fallen hit world news after decades of oblivion: the Spanish Dictator’s remains were being removed from his grave there.
For many of you this was probably the first time to hear about this “Valley” and what was going on there. But for everyone in Spain, no matter their opinion about it, this was a very significant event: Spain has had an extremely violent civil war only 84 years before (1936-1939), and every Spanish family was affected by it in many ways and for generations.
This massive religious complex was carved in the beautiful Valley of Cuelgamuros, among granite mountains, visible from 30 miles near Madrid.
I invite you to walk up to the inmense precinct with me, while I share its history with you. We shall approach it from historical, architentonic, environmental and human angles. While we stroll, we shall comment the construction of the Basilica (note that filming inside the basilica is not allowed), its symbols, the intense valley, the 500 ft. cross and soak in the views. And I´ll be most pleased to answer your questions.
