Live Tours are carried out by our hosts, who are outdoors, on location and connected live to you via video call at all times.
Jews flourished in many cities across the Netherlands since the 16th century. So prolific was their influence that many Yiddish words are still in the Dutch language today. Many beautiful buildings and monuments mark the centuries during which Jewish families lived and thrived alongside Catholics and Protestants.
On our walk, see the Ashkenazi Synagogue, the glorious treasures inside of the Portuguese Synagogue, the activities of the bustling outdoor flea market founded by Jewish Merchants (when open in your time zone), touching memorials to the Holocaust and Resistance, and much more. This tour takes place throughout the historic Jewish Quarter, with important sites dating from the 16th to the 19th centuries.
This walk shows you entirely different sights and discusses different themes than the Classic Old Town walk. For example, we talk about the Rembrandt as we walk past his actual residence and how he was close to the Jewish Community. We enter the Plantage district, a 19th century neighbourhood with beautiful architecture important to Jewish socialists.
Note: For a walk dedicated to Anne Frank and the other 50,000 Jews who went into hiding during WWII, please see my other listings on Walk With Me.
