The City of Arts and Sciences is an impressive complex of futuristic buildings designed by Santiago Calatrava. The whole complex is considered one of the ’12 Treasures of Spain’ and is made up of five main structures:
The Hemispheric Imax Cinema and Planetarium, the Science Museum with its interactive science exhibitions, the Palace of the Arts which houses the Opera House, the Agora a multifunctional space and the Oceanographic Marine Park which is the third-largest aquarium in the world.
The City of Arts and Sciences is situated at the end of what was once the riverbed of the River Turia, which was drained and rerouted after a catastrophic flood in 1957.
The former riverbed has now been turned into a series of picturesque gardens and parks.’ It really is one of the highlights of any visit to Valencia

Helpful ReviewOur tour guide Josep was extremely knowledge, not just about the work of Spanish architect Santiago Calatrava, but about architecture in general. His passion for architecture, as well as his love for and knowledge of the City of Valencia, bought this city to life on our screen. I can’t wait to visit in person!
Many thanks Josep 😊
