Welcome to the heart of the city: Rossio square. Surrounded by 18th century post earthquake buildings, the square has been present for the major events in our history, and it has changed over time in order to adapt to the needs of its users.
From here we can find out where the former medieval hospital and Inquisition palace were located, and the events that preceeded and led to the biggest Jewish massacre that Portugal has witnessed, and we will walk to where this sad event took place. On our way where we will be able to admire the Castle of St. George on top of the hill, reminding us that the city was formerly occupied by the Moors until the 12th century.
While making our way to a quieter area of the city, I will show you where is one of the most famous restaurants of the city, along with a beautiful 16th century palace turned into a 5 star hotel.
Let’s now hop into a funicular that will take us into one of my favourite hills of the city, where we will end with a beautiful view over the Tagus river, the downtown and the red roofs of amazing Lisbon.
