No winter stroll in the world can beat Fifth avenue during the holidays. Viewing the Christmas lights and window displays along Fifth Avenue is an annual traditional for millions. People come from all over the world to admire the fantastical window scenes, larger-than-life ornaments, and the smells of street vendors hocking roasted chestnuts over open fires. The bustling crowds -weighed down by shopping bags sporting enviable logos- are also part of the attraction.
Diamond white lights and red ribbons animate Cartier’s façade just a short walk down from Tiffany. Followed closely with St. Patrick’s Cathedral, smelling of incense and candles, sending forth the sound of singing choirs muffled conversations, and ringing bells.
The grandest evergreen ever to be strung with lights stands over the joyous sheet of ice that is the skating rink at 30 Rockefeller Center. A promenade of trumpeting angels leads from the Rockefeller Center tree to Saks Fifth Avenue, where a choreographed light and music extravaganza makes a fifth avenue stroll at Christmas time complete.
