In this tour, come explore the lively area of Copacabana, in the most famous Brazilian city: Rio de Janeiro!
Copacabana is without a doubt the most famous beach in Brazil, and perhaps in the world! But aside from the fame, this colorful and touristic area of Rio de Janeiro has so much more to offer, from history, to outdoor sports, Art Deco architecture, nightlife, bossa nova and samba music, and so much more!
Located in the 2nd largest city in Brazil, Copacabana was not always a popular area. What started as a sandy, isolated fisherman’s village, began to be visited more frequently in the beginning of the 20th century, with the opening of the 1st tunnel to this neighborhood and the first tram lines that came all the way from the city center.
In the 30s, 40s and 50s there was a boom and a very fast real estate growth, and that’s when it’s popularity began to rise, especially with the construction of one of the first and most luxurious 5-star hotels in Brazil, the Copacabana Palace (mentioned in many songs as “The Copa”). Celebrities such as Frank Sinatra and Marilyn Monroe helped put a spotlight in Copa, and up to nowadays it still maintains its fame among celebrities that visit the “Marvelous city”.
Despite being the most touristic area of the city, it is also one of the most populated residential areas of the South Zone of Rio, where you can find everything within walking distance: from hair salons to seafood restaurants and so much more.
Come learn about this 4km-long charming neighborhood, walk around with me and find out many curiosities about it – and you will almost be able to feel the fluffy sand under your feet and smell the ocean breeze…
