Antalya was founded by King Attalos II in 150 BC after commandeering his troops to find Heaven on Earth for him – which they did in this very special province. The city witnessed the Roman, Byzantium, and Ottoman periods. Today we have a rich history and a beautiful natural environment coupled with one of the country’s best preserved ancient towns. Antalya is a pretty special place, yet remains off the beaten track for many foreigners!
Our tour will focus on Kaleiçi – Antalya’s old town. Why? Because it is charming, picturesque, colourful, and it shows you a completely different Antalya compared to its modern counterpart. One can hardly believe that it’s part of a buzzing city with 1,3 million inhabitants. The old city ( Kaleiçi ) is like a universe on its own, with plenty of historic monuments. It’s also the city’s most atmospheric district – a maze of narrow winding streets dotted with traditional wooden houses from Ottoman period, bars, restaurants, and Ottoman-style boutique hotels.
On this tour, we will walk through the narrow cobblestoned streets of Kaleiçi and explore magnificent Roman ruins, Ottoman style wooden houses, Seljuk style mosque, pubs & bars, local shops selling handcrafts, handwoven carpets etc. And we will talk about history, everyday life, Turkish culture, Turkish cuisine or any topic of your choice.
