Product Description
This walk begins with the Monumento a la Patria in the colonial city of Mérida, capital of the Mexican state of Yucatán. It’s the perfect starting point to discover the history of México. With the help of more than 300 hundred magnificent hand carved figures, I will tell you the story of México from the establishment of Tenochtitlán to the mid 20th century, as well as our daily life and customs in a city that manages to successfully balance our past and present.
We will walk from the Monumento a la Patria along the Paseo de Montejo, the magnificent avenue flanked by trees and stately mansions from the late 19th and early 20th century. They embody the nostalgia of the older generations when the city carnival first took place or when the first national supermarkets were established and you getting groceries was a family activity. At the same time they integrate with the customs of the new generation, which gathers there every Sunday morning to stroll, bike or skate along the pedestrianised avenue.
You will discover about the history of México, but also about the local history and customs, influenced by our Mayan heritage that shaped Mérida to become the vibrant city it is today!
