Product Description

Let’s start our walk together from the Rotonda, one of the most famous and ancient building of Thessaloniki, dating back to the Roman times, when Thessaloniki was chosen as the seat of Roman Emperor Galerius. From this beautiful building, which is also called the small Pantheon, we will walk down towards the city’s promenade along the gulf.

We will pass along the triumphal arch of Emperor Galerius, we will cross the main street of Thessaloniki – Egnatia street – and stroll through the pedestrian area of Navarinou square with the remains of Galerius’ palace. From here we can see already the gulf and if we turn around, looking behind our back, the Upper City with the fortification walls.

The promenade along the sea is one of the many things that make Thessaloniki a wonderful city to live in. Here everybody comes to walk/jog/cycle, enjoying the sun and the marine breeze, the colorful sunset and the view of the imposing Mount Olympus on the opposite side –  the mountain which was the seat of the 12 gods. Walk with me a bit of the promenade, from the White Tower, which was a watch tower for centuries and it is today’s the iconic symbol of the city, until we reach the statue of Alexander the Great.

Our walk will terminate at the statue of Alexander, who though not directly related to the city, was born and raised just 20 miles from here, in the city of ancient Pella. We are in the very heart of the ancient Macedonian kingdom, and Thessaloniki owns its name to one of Alexander’s half-sisters.

This walk will be an opportunity to slide through the city’s 2300 years of history, while enjoying the view of today’s Thessaloniki, with its many cafes, shops, and lively atmosphere at any time of the day. Thessaloniki remains a bit outside the major tourism flows, thus maintaining its original flair, a jewel city with an amazing past and a unique atmosphere.
