Bologna’s core & Storytelling

Product Description

My name is Alice, I am a performer, a visual artist and my sharpest tool is sight.

Observing places with hunger for details has always given me great inspiration and Bologna is a huge resource for this appetite. Each corner, arcade, balcony and wall texture is full of details worth seeing, they grow overnight like mushrooms.

Of course, each place also has its own history and in the arcades’ shade, mysterious figures from the past emerge. Here is where I met Lady Cornelia Barbara Rossi Martinetti (1781-1867) for the first time, the woman I chose for our walk’s “screenplay”:

She lived right after the French Revolution, during Napoleon’s rule, and she often spent time with him and his wife, Josephine de Beauharnais; furthermore she hung out with Stendhal, Lord Byron, Antonio Canova, Ugo Foscolo and many other important personalities of her time. Her husband, the engineer Giovanni Battista Martinetti, was a creative architect who transformed a medieval convent into a bizarre building ready to host one of the most important and renowned literary salons of the time.

It is more than enough to excite my imagination: the more these places reveal to me, the more I want to play around with the figure of Lady Cornelia.

I imagine our time together as an interactive walking-lecture-play-game against the backdrop of the historic centre of Bologna. While you see the city through my eyes, you will look behind the surface, you will scratch the substrate of time, and you will become part of the adventure.
