Product Description

Welcome to the dark side of Madrid! Here in Spain black legends usually refer to the horror stories of the Spanish Inquisition, many promoted by anti-Spanish propaganda. However, Madrid has plenty of stories to make your toes crawl! As we walk I’ll share spooky stories connected to some of the most famous historic sites in the city.

I’m going to take you on a walk that will show you where people were tested in their religious devotion, in an age where only one faith was allowed. Those who lapsed were taken to a great trial before the king in the great Plaza Mayor. If proved guilty they faced a brutal end!

I’ll tell you the story of a romantic highway man, famous for being generous to the poor, like Robin Hood! We’ll have a look at where he used hide out before he was brought down by affairs of the heart, leading to his gruesome end.

We’ll explore another square, literally at the heart of Spain and I’ll show you point zero. It is placed outside the building where General Franco’s police operated. A place where political prisoners might ‘fall’ out of the window. The square was immortalised by Goya and we imagine the inhabitants of the city grabbing scissors, kitchen knives and sticks to attack the ferocious French mercenaries, occupying the city.

I’ll take you on a walk to tell tales of haunted churches, spectral mansions and even a ghostly bank! We’ll see one of the oldest houses in the city with a ghostly connection to the young King Philip II. Then for a ghastly climax I’ll also show you Madrids’ most famous haunted house. The 1990s saw strange goings on there with reports of very unsettling presences! I’ll give you a tragic tale of earthly misfortune and human flaw so devastating that it has been transported into the realm of the paranormal.

I’ll end by pointing you in the direction of a park, famed for a statue of the devil and where you may see a nasty goblin if you’re unlucky……
