Saint-Petersburg for almost three centuries has been the capital of Russian Empire. The founder of the city Peter the Great really wanted to build it grand and magnificent. It was his idea to name himself Emperor and to call the country Russian Empire. Royal family lived in their main city Saint-Petersburg and possessed many residences here.
The palaces were separated for winter and summer season. Such a fashion came from the European countries. All these buildings were different in size and in style. I’d like to show you such an example, talk about the most beautiful central part of the city and the royal mode of life.
You will know the history of the largest Russian museum Hermitage and the special “good luck” statues, will discover the highest building in the city center and will see the palace which was exchanged for the famous diamond. Also we will have a look at the first public garden in Russia and find out why Saint-Petersburg is called Venice of the North.
We will start on the main square with an absolutely spectacular view and then proceed to the Million street and the Palace embankment full of 18-19th century buildings. At the end you will be surprised about the real favourite palace of Peter the Great and the “garden” island.
