Product Description

From the Romans to Venetians, the Austro-Hungarians to Napoleon, Yugoslavia to an independent Croatia, Omiš has survived in some form under various ruling powers for over 2000 years. Nestled between the River Cetina, the Adriatic Sea and Dinara Mountains, Omiš is a true Dlamatian treasure. Pirates, curses, fortresses and the idyllic streets of the old town await you on this tour, which will provide insight into the rich history of this small coastal town on the Adriatic.

We will begin at the old cemetery, just outside the old town, where the ancient crumbling ruins of Roman sarcophagi are mixed amongst local burials from more recent centuries. We will take a moment to appreciate the sea views, looking down from the cemetery onto Omis’ port, before we head through the East Gate, one of the few remnants of the fortified wall that once protected the town from marauding Ottomans.

We will walk the main thorough-fare of the old town, taking in the beauty of the polished stone streets and stone buildings that harken back to the times of Venetian rule. We will cut through the back street that leads to the old pirate fortress, Peovica, and take a moment to admire the town from above. We will see churches, the House of the Happy Man, the Omiš coat of arms and the Pilar of Shame along the way, before ending the tour at the opposite end of the old town at the historical market square, where you can enjoy views of the Cetina River Valley, before we say our goodbyes.

Discover with me the history, culture and beauty that inspired me to make this small Dalmatian town on the coast my forever home.
