Product Description
This tour will take you around the most important sights around Split city centre. On our tour you will learn about the history of Split and hear an amazing story about how Roman palace turned into a city. Split has more than 1700 years of history and it’s a unique example in the whole world of a living, breathing city that grew inside of an ancient roman palace! Walking along the Split city centre I will also tell you about local culture and traditions.
We will start our tour on Riva promenade – the waterfront in Split city centre. Today this promenade is the living room of Split, the most popular and most important public place in the city. We will walk to one of the entrances of Diocletian’s palace – the Brass gate, and enter the Substructures of Diocletian’s palace. The Diocletian Palace Substructures represent one of the best preserved ancient complexes of their kind in the world. Our tour continues to the Peristil square, the central square of the Palace. There I will show you the Vestibul and the Cathedral of St Domnius. From Peristil square we will continue walking along the street Cardo and we will be heading to the Golden gate – the most important entrance to the palace, the gate through which Emperor Diocletian entered the Palace in the year 305. We will finish our tour next to the statue of Gregory of Nin. This 8.5 metre (28 ft) tall and 13 tons heavy statue by Ivan Meštrović is a much visited sight in town.
This tour is a private tour and I can adjust it to you and your interests. I hope that after the tour you will see why Split is so popular with tourists and why locals love to live here. I hope you will enjoy this tour and my hometown.
