Product Description
Our destination is a small town north of Quito City. Its name is Peguche.
This is a very well known town because of the Otavalo people and culture. The Otavalos ( name of the indigenous) where enslave by the conquistadors in the time of the colony and because of their weaving skills they were put to do clothes and uniforms. After the Independence of Ecuador, the Otavalos kept weaving textiles as part of their culture and traditions.
We are going to start this tour visiting the Peguche plaza with its church and local houses and then we will enter Maria’s gallery called “El Condor”. We will interview Maria to know first hand the culture and history of this people. Maria will also show us the techniques the Otavalos use for backs-trap looming and the materials they use from the area.
Come walk with me and learn more about the culture and day by day of the Otavalos, one of the most interesting indigenous groups in Ecuador.
