Product Description

Turkey has a wide variety of food and worldwide known cuisine. On this tour, we will break with the tradition and do something extraordinary by combining food demonstration with history.

Have you ever heard Gözleme ? If not don’t worry because soon you will master on it!! Gözleme is an authentic village dish made of flat lavaş bread folded over various ingredients then baked on a griddle, has been a popular light meal for centuries in Turkey. We have a wide variety of Gözleme such as; with spinach, with cheese, with grounded beef, with potato, mixed etc. For gözleme, ingredients are spread atop the bread and it is folded over them. A good place for gözleme is wherever you see women making it which, these days, is not uncommon.

The tour will start with a local lady making Gözleme in the garden of her village house and me explaining you the ingredients and making of it step by step. And then I will make a short walk to Aspendos which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site as it is very close. Aspendos houses the best preserved ancient theatre of the world. In fact, Aspendos isn’t just a theatre; it’s an ancient site. But we have to admit; the masterpiece is the theatre indeed. The question is, is it worth your time ? The answer is yes! The site itself may not be all that impressive, the Roman theatre abundantly make up for that. After all, this is the best preserved ancient theatre in the world.

The site is visited by approximately 400.000 people every year, mainly because of its magnificent Roman theatre. “This is not like anything that I ever saw before.” This is how the British archaeologist David George Hogarth had described the Aspendos Theatre in 1909 in a paragraph which continues as follows: “You may have seen the amphitheatres in Italy, France, Dalmatia and Africa; temples in Egypt and Greece; the palaces in Crete; you may be sated with antiquity or scornful of it. But you have not seen the theatre of Aspendos.”

If you wish to learn how to make Gözleme and then a time travel from modern Turkey to antiquity, come walk with me!
